Renewable energy policy action paving the way towards 2020

The project REPAP2020- Renewable Energy Policy Action Paving the Way for 2020, started in April 2009 and finished in September 2011, with the aim to facilitate the process of implementation of the RES-Directive, on a national level.

The main focus of the project was on the National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) which Member States had to notify to the European Commission by 30th June 2010. One objective of the project was to have ambitious plans that ensure the EU to meet the 20-20-20 targets for 2020, as set out in the directive.

This website is the platform of the REPAP2020 project and provides background information for policy-makers, info about the project’s activities and connects stakeholders from all over Europe.

On the following pages, you will find the results of this project, such as the RES-industry roadmaps for all 27 EU Member States. In addition, the website has information about the events and activities that took place within the REPAP2020 project as well as all partners involved in the project.

Importantly, this website provides background information on related studies and projects as well as useful contacts from all Member States.

“EU Roadmap: Mapping Renewable Energy Pathways towards 2020” by EREC & national RES Associations

The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) together with the national renewable energy associations from Belgium (EDORA), France (SER), Germany (BEE), Italy (APER), Poland (PIGEO), Portugal (APREN), Sweden (SERO) and The United-Kingdom (REA) have drafted a report entitled “EU Roadmap: Mapping Renewable Energy Pathways towards 2020” which :

Provides an EU overview of the NREAPs
Compares the 2020 NREAPs projections for RES developments with the RES industry projections

“Assessment of National Renewable Energy Action Plans” by Fraunhofer ISI and Technical University of Vienna/EEG

Fraunhofer ISI and Technical University of Vienna / EEG have conducted an independent assessment of the 27 NREAPs submitted by the Member States to the European Commission. The approach chosen is that of a detailed analysis of the NREAPs according to well-defined criteria, from basic evaluation criteria (such as formal inconsistencies) to an assessment of proposed measures to overcome non-cost barriers to renewables. The qualitative assessment also includes an evaluation of the envisaged measures to strengthen direct financial support for meeting the 2020 RES targets.
